Baldur's Gate?
I've never played any of the Baldur's Gate games. I really like some of BioWare's other games and I've been told by many people that Baldur's Gate are some of the best RPGs out there. Should I pick this up?

Yeah Bladurs gate is good and worth a try if you haven't played it. Also Dragon Age is supposed to be set in the same world as Baldurs Gate although I don't know if it's supposed to be set before, during, or after the Baldurs gate storyline but its a great game as well.

I just tried to find some information about that Raytan, and I came up with nothing but the opposite. Fereldan and it's neighboring countries, from what I read in the information I found, is set in a world completely set apart from the Forgotten Realms (which is where Baldur's Gate is). At any rate, I think I'll give it a go once I get a few other games out of the way.

Alright maybe my info was bad, but that's what I was reading on the Dragon Age forums a couple months ago.

Dani and I played through an old one on PS2 together, it was fairly fun. Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance. Not something I was blown away with. You could also unlock Drizzt in it, which was cool. Forgotten Realms is a D&D world, so I'd be very surprised if Dragon Age had anything to do with it.

There's also Icewind Dale if you're into the Forgotten Realms.

Ah OK. I thought it seemed like their style but I only remembered Black Isle.

DARK ALLIANCE HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH BALDURS GATE AND IS JUST A MEDIOCRE DIABLO CLONE. CAPS. They seriously just added the 'baldur's gate' bit to garner extra sales from nostalgia of the original PC series.
DO buy the regular Baldur's gate 1 & 2 plus all the expansions. Those two games totally ruined my scholastic performance in my senior year of high school.
Dragon Age has nothing to do with Forgotten realms.
Also, if you want more dnd games, Icewind Dale (as someone mentioned) and Neverwinter nights are awesome too. Nwn2 is nice but you'd need a ridiculous rig to get the most out of it.

I recommend you start playing on BG1, once you clear it, you can export your character to bg2....

Dragon Age is the spiritual successor to Baldur's Gate. Like <insert game here> would be the spiritual successor to Doom. Dead Space seems like a spiritual successor for Quake/Doom.
Same feel, not necessarily same setting or even mechanics.
